Here is the latest update from Sitka team rider Leah Oke:
I have just arrived back in Canada from Panama (where I’v made my home base for the last few months). Traded in sunburns, scorpions and jelly fish for sideways snowstorms, frozen extremities and aggressive sea lions. On my way home I had a quick stopover in Los Angeles to shoot some profile pictures with Surfer Magazine for an article in their upcoming issue. Photo shoot went great and we nailed the shots in minutes! I’m now back in Canada for about two weeks to shoot some surfing for a short Video, get some pictures of me surfing around home and pick up some fresh boards. Then I will be heading back to Panama to continue training and entering a bunch of contest in the next month or two. As of right now I am the leader in the El Sitio Surf Series contests in Playa Venao, Panama. I’v had a 2nd place and a win so I’m leading in points in the Open Women category! It is a series of 7 different contests and in the end the winners are determined by their rankings throughout the entire series. I will be missing one El SItio contest while in Canada, but hopefully I’ll have some more good results when I return and come out on top at the end of the series. It has been very good for my contest surfing being in Panama. I have been able to enter a lot of different contest this year, and every heat I learn more about contest strategy and what it takes to win. Also my boyfriend (Gonzalo Gonzalez), who also happens to be one of Panama’s top surfers, has been coaching me in contests and making me more aware of things I need to improve (and how) in order to win bigger contests. So its been super rad but I’m stoked to be back on my home turf catching some winter swells and having some fun in the cold waters of the Northwest Pacific.
